Actor Sean Astin, 'Lord of the Rings,' 'Goonies' and 'Rudy' star, to speak at Penn State Harrisburg

Actor Sean Astin will visit Penn State Harrisburg at 7 p.m. Thursday to discuss his battle with bipolar disorder, mental health awareness, his activism on campus, and more.

The event will take place in the Mukund S. Kulkarni Theatre (SEC Building).

Astin is a film actor, director, voice artist and producer, best known for his roles in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “The Goonies,” “Rudy,” and “Stranger Things.” He is the author of the New York Times best-selling “There and Back Again, a Memoir” about his film career, with emphasis on his experiences in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

Astin has served on the board of several nonprofit organizations, including the National Center for Family Literacy.

He is an advocate for literacy, mental health awareness, bipolar disorder, civic engagement and other issues.
