She was born on July 24, 1936 in Valley View and was the daughter of Lewis B. and Mildred Zimmerman.
She was a graduate of Tri Valley High School in Hegins. She retired from Three Mile Island after 20 years of service where she was executive secretary to the director of Unit II.
She loved traveling in the motor home with her husband and was able to visit 43 of the 50 United States including Hawaii and Alaska as well as several Canadian Provinces. In recent years she and her husband enjoyed spending winters at their home in Winter Haven, Fla. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and adored all of them. We were fortunate to have a special needs son born to us at a very early time in our married life and it became her mission to see that he was properly cared for. She did this with a passion. Rodney’s needs came first and nothing would deter her from that mission. His needs are being met by P.A.I., a special needs facility in Lancaster, where he is being taken care of in loving surroundings.
She was preceded in death by brothers Carl and Richard.
She is survived by her husband Wayne, with whom she would have celebrated 58 years of marriage in April; three sons Rodney, Robert and wife Polly, and Regan and wife Tamara; one daughter Kathy Warrington; five grandchildren Susan Heller, Carrie Lingle, Tyler Warrington and Adam and Nicholas Troutman; four great-grandchildren; two brothers Lewis and Gerald; and one sister Jane Maurer.
A Memorial service and a celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, at First Church of God, West High Street, Middletown, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to The Sturge Weber Foundation, Post Office Box 418, Mt. Freedom, NJ 07970.
