“Bridge (the gap)” – New play to debut at Central Penn College

Posted by GColburn

The Capital BlueCross Theatre will present “Bridge (the gap)”––a theatrical work that explores what happens when secrets of the past collide with dreams for the future on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 15 at 2:30 p.m.

In the play, a young African American woman returns to the small town where she grew up. As she attempts to tie up the loose ends of her uncle's estate, she ends up unraveling long-held secrets that change nearly everything! Can she “bridge the gap” between what she once believed and what she now knows to be true?

The play––featuring spoken-word poetry and music––is a co-production between Sankofa African American Theatre Company and Reclaim Artists Collective. Sharia Benn is the originator of the concept and story. She also directed the production. Central Penn College Professor Maria James-Thiaw wrote the poetry that forms the play’s dialog.

Following the performance, Johntrae Williams, trained in facilitating discussions on race relations, will moderate a post-show conversation.

“Bridge (the gap)” is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
