The Middletown Blue Raider Midgets football team bounced back big from last week’s loss, defeating the Shippensburg Greyhounds 57-0 Sunday at War Memorial Field.

The Pony team won 48-0, and the Peewees won 18-12.

The Raider Midgets are 4-2 on the season and will play host to the Swatara Tigers at War Memorial Field at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15. The Pony team plays at 2:30 p.m., the Peewees at 1 p.m. and the Smurfs at noon.

Red Stripe Raider Tajae Broadie picked up three touchdowns Sunday playing from his defensive tackle position for the Midgets.

The Red Stripe rule was put into effect this season in the CFA. It allows players who exceed the 160-pound weight limit for Midgets to play. However, they must play on the defensive and offensive line only and wear a red stripe on their helmets. They can only advance the football if they recover the ball while playing on the defensive side.

Broadie, who will be a bright light in Middletown’s football future, did just that, not once but three times. Broadie first snatched a Greyhound pass out of the air and returned 45 yards for a “pick 6” touchdown. He would recover two more fumbles and return them for a combined total of 65 yards for two more touchdowns.

Also in the game, quarterback Tate Leach grabbed a touchdown after surging up the middle.

Raider running back Audric Bryant scored after shedding a defender and racing 20 yards into the end zone. The Greyhounds found themselves unable to move the ball on offense and were unable to stop the Raiders offensive attack.

Tailback Bamm Appleby would grab two touchdowns on the day, the first coming on a jet sweep from 25 yards out and the second on a 20-yard run around the left end.

Receiver Nyzir Arango caught a pass from Leach in the end zone for an extra point and Leach after another TD scampered around the right end to score the extra point.

In the second half, Appleby, playing quarterback, threw a touchdown pass to receiver Dylan Ruiz, who raced 30 yards after the catch into the end zone. Running back Tylishaun Parker bolted around the right end to score the extra point.

Later, Parker found the end zone again after taking the toss from Appleby and dashed 50 yards for another Raider touchdown. Appleby would then throw a strike to receiver Peyton Moyer who caught the ball in the end zone for the extra point.
