PennDOT has delayed to March 28-31 the dates for closing a section of Route 39 to remove debris under the Route 39 bridge at the South Hanover-Derry Township line.

Route 39 from East Canal Street to Boat House Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from Tuesday, March 28 through Friday, March 31. Traffic will be detoured following Sand Beach Road and East Canal Road during the closure.

PennDOT had set the road closing for March 21 through March 24. However, PennDOT has decided to push back the closing by a week.

The closing is for maintenance crews to remove downed trees and other debris that has built up in the creek over time. This can lead to damming of the creek and damage to the bridge substructure, PennDOT says.
