Don’t replace Kids Kastle completely; keep the wood: Letter to the Editor

Posted

I read where money is being raised to maintain and refurbish the Kids Kastle.

I was recently in Hershey near the swimming pool and library where their wooden structures have been completely replaced by new structures apparently with a grant of $100,000 as noted on a plaque. Although having some modern features, I still prefer the old wooden structures in Hoffer Park which are more spread out and offer a more interesting labyrinth for children to explore.

Hoffer Park itself is superior to any parks I have seen, with the Swatara Creek and beautiful old established trees providing shade and a train regularly passing by. It has been the scene of many family picnics as well as the annual historic fair.

While refurbishing is being considered I wonder if anyone would venture to rename the park. The fence around the park still has Middletown family and business names commemorating those who donated at the time of its construction. I believe the basic wooden structures are sound and should be saved and that this will be most cost effective for the Middletown community.
