The Middletown Area High School girls basketball team played host to a basketball clinic for young girls for three one-hour sessions on Monday nights in June.

Girls coach Ron Stetler, his high school assistants, and members of last year’s team served as coaches for the 25 girls, who learned about the fundamentals of basketball. The event was open to girls in grades one through eight.

This was the first year Stetler hosted the clinic.

“I’d like to do this next year since I thought it went well,” Stetler said.

I played on Middletown, PA's junior high basketball team, freshman basketball team, junior varsity basketball team and varsity basketball team in the past. I then went on to play for the Borough of Manhattan Community College of the City University of New York's women's basketball championship team in 1982 until 1983. We were the divisional champions and 1st runner-up in the region. We played a fast break and run and gun type of offense. We played like guys. A few months ago I played against some guys at Hoffer Park and found out that I am still skilled after not playing basketball for over 30 years. There was a younger girl on my team who I gave advice to while playing against the guys. She took my advice and started making shots. It increased her confidence and she made more shots. I found out that I can still play basketball well. I can still do reverse layups from the left side of the hoop. I can still do tricks with the basketball. The guys on the other team found that out really quickly. We beat the guys whom we played against at Hoffer Park.
