I-283 North ramp to I-83 South will be closed Saturday

Here’s a heads up for any motorists looking to drive through the busy Eisenhower interchange area on Saturday.

Weather permitting, the northbound Interstate 283 ramp to southbound Interstate 83 will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Work crews will patch pavement and work on repairs to an overhead concrete-encased steel I-beam on the bridge that carries northbound I-83 to U.S. 322 eastbound just east of Harrisburg in Swatara Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said Thursday.

If you plan to be driving in that area Saturday, PennDOT recommends the following alternate route: follow eastbound 322 to the Penhar Drive exit, turn right at the stop sign onto Penhar Drive, turn right at the stop sign onto Paxton Street, and turn left onto the westbound 322 on-ramp to I-83 south.

The northbound I-283 ramp to I-83 south averages 15,300 vehicles every day, PennDOT says.
