Lawrence G. Reeves


Lawrence G. Reeves, 68, of Steelton, formerly of Middletown, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at his home.

He was born on August 8, 1950 in Harrisburg and was the son of the late Rev. Julius V. Reeves Sr. and Catherine V. (Makel) Reeves.

Larry was a member of Grace and Mercy Church and Ministries, Middletown where he sang in the church choir and was involved in the Outreach Ministry and the Food Bank Ministry. He was also instrumental in helping organize the first Middletown Village Reunion and his 50th high school class reunion. Larry loved all sports and was a former Middletown Boys Club football coach.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his four brothers, Julius V. Reeves Jr., David Reeves, Ernest Reeves and Chester Reeves as well as three sisters, Estella Fultz, Catherine White, and Norma Rice.

He is survived by his sister Barbara Wilson of Washington, D.C.; brother, Vance Reeves of Middletown; stepgrandmother, Flora Mae Reeves; sister-in-law, Jane Reeves; companion/caregiver, Valerie Resh; 18 nieces and nephews; 35 great-nieces and nephews; 26 great-great-nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

A tribute to his life will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Grace and Mercy Church and Ministries, 501 Ann St., Middletown, PA 17057, with the Rev. Florence Abdullah officiating. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.

Burial will be in William Howard Day Cemetery, Steelton.

The family has entrusted the care of the Matinchek Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Middletown to handle the funeral arrangements.
