MASD to get new diesel school buses after settlement with Volkswagen

Middletown Area School District will get some new diesel school buses, thanks to a portion of the money Volkswagen was ordered to pay the government after the car maker was found to have cheated on emissions tests in the United States.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced a grant of $363,537 on Aug. 1 to the First Student bus company, to replace 18 diesel buses in Middletown and in three other districts in Montgomery and Lehigh counties.

The buses are among 34 cleaner energy transportation projects funded from the state’s $8.4 million share of the settlement with Volkswagen Group of America.
