Middletown Swim Club offers thanks to community: Letter to the Editor

The last day of the 2019 season at the Middletown Swim Club was Sunday, Aug. 25.

Emotions run wild as we write this, and the first one that comes to mind is sadness. The closing of the pool essentially marks the end of summer. It means that the whistle being blown is not from a lifeguard but rather a football or soccer referee. It means that we trade in our mermaid slushies for hot cocoa or apple cider. Swimsuits are replaced with a hoodie.

Admittedly, for die-hard summer fans, this is hard to accept.

However, we can thank Dr. Seuss for his inspiring words, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

And so, we smile and look back at a great season.

Thanks to our members for their tireless support of the club. Whether you bought chicken barbecue tickets, ordered meals on restaurant nights, attended Fourth of July festivities, helped on workdays, or offered advice or suggestions, we couldn’t do this without you. You are the cornerstone of the organization, and we are grateful.

We are blessed beyond measure to have a staff that is world-class in action and thought. A 7-acre property is massive, and there are so many details to consider. Thank you to management, chemists, lifeguards and concession employees for your unwavering dedication. We couldn’t run daily without you.

Thank you to the swim team — the Middletown Dolphins — for your commitment to the club. We are proud of the year you had competitively during meets, and we are appreciative of the help that you have provided in terms of grounds upkeep and your annual contribution to the club. Thank you for your partnership.

And we would be remiss if we didn’t thank the Press & Journal for capturing and printing priceless moments of families having summer fun in past years and this year. Thank you for showcasing the familial atmosphere that our club is known for.

Just like that, the sadness that we once felt fades away and thankfulness fills our hearts. In summary, thanks to an entire community for all you do to support the club. We are happy to be Middletown proud, and we look forward to next summer with a brand-new set of memories to make.

Until next year ...
