Panel to look closely at news business at 'Trust, Transparency and the News'

With the nation engaged in an intense debate about the news business, four central Pennsylvania organizations have joined to offer a night of conversation.

Join WITF, LNP Media Group Inc., and the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association for a program called “Trust, Transparency and the News” from 7 to 8:30 p.m., March 20, in Gibble Auditorium at Elizabethtown College.

The event is free to the public, but registration is required. Visit www.witf.org/events to do so in advance.

The program will feature Dr. Jean Pretz, an associate professor of psychology at Elizabethtown College, as the keynote speaker, followed by separate panel discussions on transparency and trust in news organizations.

Audience members will have opportunities to ask questions, too. Additional commentary will be provided by the leaders of Elizabethtown College, WITF, PNA and LNP.

The first panel on “transparency” will be moderated by Teri Henning, PNA president, and include two WITF staff members — Tim Lambert, multimedia news director, and Marie Cusick, StateImpact Pennsylvania reporter — as well as two LNP staff members — Tom Murse, content editor at LNP and editor of The Caucus, and Paula Knudsen, investigative reporter at LNP and The Caucus.

The second panel on “trust” will be moderated by Dr. Dan Chen, an assistant professor of political science and Asian studies at Elizabethtown College. Panelists will include Dr. Kirsten Johnson, an associate professor of communications, and Pleasant Sprinkles-Williams, a first-year student in communications at Elizabethtown College.
