Penn State building new turf field, will be home to men's and women's soccer and provide practice space

Penn State Harrisburg is set to add to its athletic facilities with the construction of a new multipurpose turf field adjacent to the Education Activities Building, with the project set for completion sometime this spring.

The facility will serve as the new home of men's and women's soccer and will provide additional practice space for other sports at the college.

“We couldn't be more excited about this new addition to our campus,” said Penn State Harrisburg Director of Athletics Rahsaan Carlton. “This multipurpose field will greatly enhance the overall experience of our students who participate in varsity, intramural and club sport programs. It will also provide us the opportunity to explore a wide array of programming options in the future.”

The project includes the installation of turf, fencing, netting, field lines for multiple sports, new field lighting and the construction of a 16-by-16 foot video scoreboard.

Phase one of the project included the laying of a turf surface, upgrading of lights and construction of a new scoreboard. Further phases will include the addition of stadium-style seating, locker rooms and restrooms.

The 2019 men's soccer team reached the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

The field is just west of College Avenue, not far from the intersection with West Harrisburg Pike.

Harrisburg-based K&W Engineers recently pledged $50,000 for construction of the field. Co-founder and owner Marc Kurowski is a 1992 graduate of Penn State Harrisburg.
