Press & Journal is state’s top small weekly in state

Posted

The Press & Journal recently was named the best newspaper of its size in the state in the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association Foundation’s Newspaper of the Year Contest.

In addition to winning General Excellence, the paper won four first-place awards (in News Excellence, Advertising Excellence, Editorial and Commentary Excellence, and Best Use of Photography), and one second-place honor (in Diversity) in the 10 categories that make up the contest.

“It is always gratifying to be honored by our peers. I am very proud of our tireless staff that labors 24/7 to meet the expectations and demands of readers and advertisers,” said Joseph G. Sukle, publisher.

“It is also humbling to know that even without this recognition, everyone at the P&J would continue to strive to produce an outstanding community weekly newspaper — in print and online,” he added.

The Press & Journal competes in Division VI, weekly publications of less than 7,000 circulation.

In the Newspaper of the Year contest, which honors weeklies of any size, the Press & Journal finished second behind the Philadelphia Gay News.
