Readers' Views: Lose a priceless treasure

Editor,I am the pastor of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church. I mention that to say that I am lately finding myself asking members to pray for Middletown and the Borough Council because Scripture tells us we should pray for our leaders. So we do.

Readers' Views: Lose a priceless treasure

Posted

But I want to write in response to the article on the Flood of 2011 and the story of Ed and Olga O’Connor. I am deeply saddened by the news, which I was previously aware of before, that they will not only be leaving our community but leaving our country.

Ed is a genuine original. His DJ concerts in Middletown were a joyful occasion when the people of Middletown gathered together to listen to music he played and win prizes for answering trivia questions.

Olga is a true example of what being an immigrant can lead to – she came to this country and worked hard to become a citizen. She is part of the staff at the Middletown Thrift Store on Union Street, and is always  ready with a smile and warm greeting for customers.

Both Ed and Olga’s departure means further impoverishment for a community that has lost so much in the past year.

I admit I am selfish. I am hoping they will find themselves changing their minds shortly after moving to Ecuador.

Ed asks, “How much more could we lose?” I answer, “I do not know, but I do know that we in Middletown will lose a priceless treasure in you when you move.”
