Running red light leads to DUI; police use Narcan on overdose: Police and Courts Roundup

A Harrisburg man was charged with DUI after Middletown police allegedly saw him run a red light and drive into the opposite lane while turning right at Vine and East Main streets sometime after 2:42 a.m. Nov. 28.

Police in arrest papers filed with District Judge David Judy said that Cole Phillip Witmer, 18, of the 1000 block of Cardinal Drive, had a blood alcohol content of 0.122 percent at the time.

Besides DUI Witmer is charged with failing to stop at a red light and for making an improper right turn.

His preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 20.

Borough police use Narcan

Middletown police used Narcan to revive a man who had a heroin-related overdose in the 400 block of Vine Street on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Police were dispatched to the residence at 7:58 p.m. The man was revived after police administered one full dose of Narcan. The man was then taken to the hospital by emergency medical service workers via ambulance, police said.

Driver hits Turkey Hill, then leaves

Middletown police are investigating a hit-and-run during which a driver drove into the Turkey Hill at 170 E. Main St. on Sunday, Dec. 10, and then left the scene.

Police were dispatched to the scene at 4:26 p.m. after the person driving at 1999 tan Oldsmobile Bravada had damaged a large window pane and frame at the store.

Police later made contact with the driver at a residence in the 900 block of Briarcliff Road, but no charges have yet been filed.

Attempted vehicle break-in

A man reported that someone tried to break into his vehicle while he was shopping at Giant in Middletown on Sunday, Dec. 10, but nothing was stolen.

Part of the plastic handle on the man’s car door was discovered missing by the man after he had finished shopping, police said.

Vehicle, garage door vandalized

“Silly string” was sprayed on a vehicle and on a neighboring garage door in the 100 block of East Main Street. The incident was reported to borough police on Sept. 27.

Tires slashed on Birch Street

Two tires on the driver’s side of a 2006 light blue Ford Escort were reported slashed as the vehicle was parked in the 100 block of Birch Street. The incident was reported to borough police Sept. 26.

Police probe laundromat damage

A laundromat in the 300 block of South Wood Street in Middletown was damaged in an apparent case of criminal mischief.

The incident was reported to police on Sept. 29.
