Templeton, Ocker are Middletown Area High School students of the month

Erin Templeton and Caleb Amos Ocker are the Middletown Area High School Students of the Month for March.

Templeton is the daughter of Mark and Dawn Templeton

She is involved in volleyball, Student Council, Key Club and National Honor Society. She has dual college enrollment (Messiah College in the fall semester, online at West Virginia University, spring semester).

She is one of the leaders of the school youth group called EPIC (Extreme Power In Christ) and is very involved in volunteer service around the community, including with Seven Sorrows Fish Fry as a server.

As a sophomore, she was awarded the Speedwell Scholarship through AFS (American Field Service), which allowed her to study abroad in Aalesund, Norway, for her entire junior year.

She was employed at Pinebrook Bible Conference in the Poconos for two summers, 2013 and 2014.

She wants to pursue a four-year degree in linguistics/intercultural studies at either Biola University or Calvin College and pursue a career in bible translation with Wycliffe Bible Translators abroad to combine her passions.

“I am honored to have been chosen to represent my school and my senior class this month, and I hope that the numerous other deserving students of the MAHS Class of 2017 know how much they have encouraged me in my academic and extra curricular pursuits,” she said.

Ocker is the son of Jodi and Keith Ocker.

He is a Student Council representative, a member of the National Honor Society, Mini-THON Committee member, and an Honor Roll student. He is involved with Link Crew, chorus, marching band (Tournament of Bands ACC champions), jazz band, and concert band. He started the first basketball pep band. He is a cross country team member (2016 captain, district qualifier the last two years) and a track and field team member.

He is currently taking dual enrollment for West Virginia University. He is a member of Grace United Methodist Church and youth group, and volunteers at the Hummelstown food bank.

He is an avid outdoorsman as well as an avid runner who completed his first marathon in November 2016, with a time of just less than four hours.

He works at Chick-fil-A in Harrisburg and seasonally at Smith’s Tree Farm in Harrisburg.

He plans to attend West Virginia University (Davis College of Agriculture) to major in wildlife and fisheries resources.

“I am honored I received Student of the Month. It shows that teachers as well as administrators recognize my hard work as well as my outgoing personality. This recognition has given me a confidence boost that my hard-work in being noticed as well as gives me a positive outlook in my upcoming future endeavors.”
