Time of special meeting about MASD enrollment, elementaries changed because of parade conflict

The time for the special Middletown Area School Board meeting Thursday, Oct. 17, has been changed because it originally conflicted with the annual Lower Swatara Halloween Parade.

Both the meeting and the parade were set to start at 6 p.m. The school board meeting now will be held at 7:30.

The meeting will focus on the next step toward deciding how the school district will prepare for projected growth in elementary grades.

The meeting will feature a presentation by architects Crabtree, Rohrbaugh and Associates regarding a potential elementary building project.

The main options remain either renovating and expanding Kunkel Elementary School, or closing Kunkel and consolidating all elementary students in the district’s central campus off Oberlin Road in Lower Swatara Township, where the high and middle schools are located along with Reid Elementary School.
