UPS plans to hire 1,100 people in the Harrisburg area to get through the holiday season.

The company will hire at four local locations, including the Middletown Hub at 298 Airport Drive and the Middletown Gateway at 100 Airport Drive.

The other locations are the Harrisburg Hub on South 19th Street, and at the Carlisle Hub.

UPS needs part-time package handlers, drivers, and driver helpers, spokesman Dan McMackin told the Press & Journal.

UPS expects to keep these workers through January to handle the “spike in volume” from returns and from people making purchases with the gift cards they receive for Christmas, McMackin added.

UPS will need about 100,000 more people nationwide to get through the holidays. About a third of these part-time positions have led to permanent jobs with UPS in recent years, the company said in a press release.
