The Vetoes have broken the tie.

In Friday’s annual Mayoral Madness basketball game, Mayor James H. Curry III’s team, the Vetoes, won 52-45.

The score had been two wins for the Vetoes and two wins for the Overrides, a team made up of current Middletown Area High School Blue Raiders.

At halftime, a scholarship for $1,500 was presented to senior Ben Knisely, who was runner-up in the Mr. Middletown pageant which was taking place down the hall in the high school auditorium.

Funds from the charity basketball game go toward the borough’s annual Labor Day fireworks.

During a borough council meeting in February, Curry said Mayoral Madness had raised $45,209.52 to date.
